Main HSS Material Grades for Pipe Cutting Blades

There are 4 common high-speed steel grades used to manufacture HSS saw blades for tube cutting machines, each with distinct performance and applicable scenarios:

  1. M2 HSS (Most Popular General Grade)Balanced hardness, toughness and heat resistance, moderate price. It resists tooth breakage well during cutting thin carbon steel, iron tubes and aluminum tubes. It is the standard material for standard automatic tube cutting machines and small-batch metal processing.
  2. M35 HSS (Cobalt High-Speed Steel, 5% Cobalt Content)Added cobalt element greatly boosts red hardness and heat resistance. It stays sharp under long-time high-temperature friction, suitable for cutting stainless steel, thin alloy steel pipes. Service life is about 30% longer than M2.
  3. M42 HSS (8% Cobalt Super HSS)Top-tier cobalt HSS with the highest heat resistance and wear resistance among regular HSS materials. It handles continuous heavy cutting of thin-wall stainless steel, high-hardness alloy tubes. Ideal for high-speed fully automatic pipe cutting production lines, though the material cost is higher.

Cómo elegir el material adecuado para una hoja de sierra HSS

  1. For cutting ordinary carbon steel tubes, iron pipes, aluminum profiles, small & medium batch production: Pick M2 HSS. Best cost performance, no unnecessary high cost.
  2. For frequent stainless steel pipe cutting, medium continuous production: Choose M35 HSS. Cobalt ingredient avoids rapid tool annealing and dulling.
  3. For large factories with 24-hour uninterrupted cutting, mass stainless/alloy tube processing: Select M42 HSS. Ultra high red hardness reduces blade replacement frequency and raises overall productivity
